Class A, B, Standard, 100% Post Consumer HDPE Material Technical Specifications
Scranton Products offers a complete line of toilet compartment that meet the ASTM E84-94 criteria for Class A & Class B. Contact Scranton Products for colors and availability.
Test Method: ASTM E84 (tunnel test) – Surface burning Characteristics of Building Materials. This test method is intended to compare the surface flame spread and smoke developed measurements to those obtained from tests of mineral fiber cement board and select grade red oak flooring. The results are expressed as Flame Spread Index. Note that the ASTM E-84-94 is a test for building materials. Toilet compartments are not building materials. However, the ASTM E84-94 has become a typical testing method for measuring the flame data for plastic toilet compartments.
Scranton Products current Standard HDPE Material Flame Spread 55 Smoke Developed 495
Class B Flame Spread (26-75): 55 Smoke Developed (<450): 330 Includes any material classified at 25 but not more than 76 on the flame spread test scale and 450 or less on the smoke developed test scale.
Class A Flame Spread (0-25): 20 Smoke Developed (<450): 20 Includes any material classified at 25 or less on the flame spread test scale and 450 or less on the smoke developed test scale. Any element thereof when so tested shall not continue to propagate fire.
Test Method: UL 94 Vertical Burn – Test for Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances. Note that the UL-94 is a test for parts in appliances. Toilet compartments do not fall into this category. However the UL 94 vertical burn test as applied to our Class A (Per ASTM E84-94) components contain flame retardants throughout the thickness of the material and not just the outer surfaces. Thus, the Class A, Panel will self extinguish quickly when ignited. The plastic test specimen is fixed in a vertical position. Surgical cotton is placed 12” below the test specimen and a flame is applied to the lower end of the test specimen for two successive ten second intervals. Results Class A toilet compartments meet the requirements of 94V-0. A Material Classed 94V-0 shall (summarized):
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)* has been independently tested, and is unaffected when exposed to the following substances:
